Are you afraid of Succeeding or Failing?

Fear of doing something really good and then not being able to follow up.

Have you ever felt that you once have done something so great that nothing will ever come close to being as good.

Why do we feel the need to always do better?

For one it is a prime motivating factor. If we keep working on something and we keep failing most times it is so much harder to get up and go again. The more we fail at it the harder it is to start over.

This mental block will start to develop in our subconscious mind. We by nature find the easy route to everything we do. Why? Because it gives us instant pleasure.

It's one thing to get motivated to do something and another to keep that motivation going. The latter is something we can call grit, perseverance.

I had a friend of mine tell me he read such a great book that he is not going to pick up and read another book. For the simple reason that he is "worried" that he will never read another great book like the one he read.

Now most of us would think this is nonsensical. Since there are hundreds of thousands of books and yes some will be terrible, and on the contrary some will be so good, even better than the one he just read.

What is interesting to note here is that he knows that there are great or better books out there, better than the one he finished reading. However that the next book he reads he says the chances of it being as good are very slim, and he may be right.

It isn't easy coming across consistently good books.

So what should he do next? Never read another book again so he doesn't have to endure mental pain. No. He should screen the books he reads prior to commencing in reading them.

This post is not about my friend and his discontinuance of reading books, if you have noticed the underlying message in this post great. If not then let me tell you what it is.

We are always going to be faced with the fact that improvement will be a challenge. That the next stepping stone will never be easy to overcome. It never should be. What comes easy will never give us the opportunity to grow.

I say appreciate the challenge. When you come across something you think is so good or worked on a project you think cannot be topped. Set yourself the challenge to do better than you did.

The challenge on it's own is thinking you can do better. When you get passed this and it comes time to failing have a real hard look and see where improvement is needed. Sometime's it can be a few small steps that you have missed or taken at the wrong time that can make a difference in doing better than you did before.

Face the fear of your self doubt.

Thank you for taking the time to read this post. To be continued...
